Sacred art by the sculptor Filip Piccolruaz from Val Gardena
Numerous important European churches contain different holy figures and other pieces by the ladin artist from Val Gardena
The mellow, rounded fragrance of fresh pine has accompanied Filip since his childhood. His early experiments were carried out in his father’s studio, this light room with the large windows. Two simple screwdrivers served as his first tools.
In the background classical music would have been playing, just as it is today. Through the changing seasons and over the decades, Christmas oratorios or an Easter mass would have formed the backdrop for the emergence of countless sacred masterpieces – artworks which can still be admired today in churches across various countries.
Madonnas, Christ figures, mangers, stations of the cross, nativity and holy figures in different sizes and materials, but also artistic architecture (from altars to baptismal fonts) can be commissioned from the artist Filip Piccolruaz in Ortisei. Stylistic genres range from romantic to Byzantine or gothic through baroque and rococo to classical and modern. The sacred artworks can be carved from pine, lime wood, chestnut, walnut, birch, maple, cherry and other types of wood, or even from bronze, stone and marble. All Piccolruaz religious sculptures and church pieces are unique handmade items.
